Alfa Romeo History
If you love Italian motorsport, then you are no doubt a big fan of the Alfa Romeo vehicles. For the past 100 years, Alfa Romeo has been able to boast a magnificent history in the motorsport industry with their multiple racing victories celebrated.
Where did it start?
It all began in 1910 when the Italian plant of a French car maker was acquired by Cavalier Ugo Stella. The company was called Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili, hence the acronym A.L.F.A.
In 1914, Guiseppe Merosi designed the Alfa Grand Prix as the first attempt to establish the brand in international racing. Different technical innovations were used for the engine. The ALFA 20-30 HP was the first ‘torpedo’ car to be built, happening just after the war. Only 124 were ever produced. The first World Championship was in Monza with the car driven by Gastone Brilli Peri.
At the beginning of the year, the Geneva Motor Show hosted the launch of a new car concept for Alfa Romeo, the 4C Concept. It weighed in at less than 850kg with the use of carbon fibre and aluminium.
